About Lucca
We don't know anyone who's visited Lucca and didn't appreciate its unique charms. The old town (centro storico) is surrounded by a Renaissance era wall. The top of the wall is a park which surrounds the town. Pedestrians, cyclists and pets share this wide expanse.
The town is compact and flat. It's filled with restaurants and shops. Most everything you need (or want) is within a 10 minute walk.
There are 99 churches and countless restaurants. Dining ranges from a simple focaccia to Michelin starred restaurants (there are 10 in the region).
Puccini spent most of his life here. There's a recital every night with professional opera singers doing Puccini arias.
It's a great base to explore surrounding Tuscany. The train station is just outside the wall (15 minute walk from the townhouse) with frequent trains to Pisa (25 minutes), the beaches at Viareggio (25 minutes) and Florence (80 minutes). Cinque Terre is 2 trains and 90 minutes to La Spezia.
If you have a car you'll need to park it outside the wall as vehicle access is limited to registered cars.
